MAAK is a magazine concept born from the need for society to move away from consumerism and toward creative innovation. I have a strong interest in the art of re-purposing materials and the DIY culture. However, there is often the aesthetic misconception that re-purposed design can be tired and uncohesive. The concept of this Brand would be to reinvent DIY as trendy and chic. The composition of the magazine and all its elements offers itself to sleek and minimalistic layout. This provides insight into my style and preferred palette. I chose to use a minimal look and feel in order to emphasis the correlation between simplicity and the DIY design aspect. My color palette is edgy yet inobtrusive. I feel that soft neutral tones translate my brand identity and personal style.

I have created a number of branding elements that build the brand Identity and establish a consistency in the brand style. In order for the magazine to operate as a learning tool, I have greatly considered client interaction into my design. I have encorporated a barcode on every feature article. This, paired with a mobile app, provides the subscriber with a direct link to additional information such as featured artists’ websites, templates, look books, blogs etc. This aims to transcend the customer experience and take the reader to the next phase: creation. Unfortunately I have not yet designed and rendered that component but my aim was to provide the platform visually. My packaging design is another interactive element. It offers itself as a protective sleeve, bookmark and template design. This multi-layered approach is what I believe seperates my brand concept from others.
